Catholic Church Established at Site

bishop moskulThe establishment of a Catholic Church next to the apparition site appears to be an integral part of Jesus and Our Loving Mother’s plans for Conyers. In October 1998, Bishop Robert Moskal established a new parish, the Mother of God Ukrainian Catholic Church, next to the apparition site.

The parish is part of one of the Eastern Rite Churches within the Catholic Church in full communion with Rome and is centrally located in Bishop Moskal’s Eparchy (Diocese), which covers most of the Southeastern United States. The Ukrainian Catholic Rite is the largest of the Eastern Rite Catholic Churches. Part of the mission of the parish is to provide for the spiritual needs of the visiting pilgrims.

Confessions are available 1/2 hour before the daily Divine Liturgy (Holy Mass), which on weekdays is at 8 a.m. and on Saturday at 9 a.m. The Sunday vigil is at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. The Sunday Divine Liturgy (Holy Mass) is at 9:00 a.m. The Divine Liturgy (Holy Mass) in the Ukrainian language is at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. A priest is usually available during the day at the Church Rectory for confession and spiritual guidance (Phone:770-760-1111). All Catholics, regardless of Rite, can attend the Divine Liturgy (the Mass) and receive the Sacraments of Confession and the Holy Eucharist at this Eastern Rite Catholic Church. The Divine Liturgy is rich in tradition and its celebration will certainly bless any pilgrim.

sanctuaryThe interior walls and ceiling of the church are covered with beautiful, hand painted icons and pictures taken directly from various passages in the Bible. In the summer of 2001, the Mother of God Catholic Church completed the painting of its beautiful biblical icons, which literally fill the interior of the church. Pilgrims are invited to come and visit with Jesus in His house any day. There, He is present in Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity and He waits for you in the Tabernacle. The Church is open daily from 7 a.m. to dusk.
